What a Golden Retriever puppy costs here

Every puppy here is priced on its own page, and this litter runs from $700 to $700. They are not identical animals, so pretending they carry an identical number would be the first dishonest thing on this page. What moves a puppy up or down the range is the dog itself and how much interest it has had.

Colour is part of that, and we say so rather than deny it. Our red puppy is the dearest one on the site because a deep red attracts more inquiries than any other shade, and her own page says exactly that. What should worry you is a breeder who denies colour affects their pricing while quietly charging more for it.

What the price covers

  • A veterinary examination in the week before the puppy leaves, and the vaccinations its age calls for.
  • Worming, repeated on the schedule the puppy's age calls for, from about two weeks.
  • A microchip, registered to you at handover rather than to us with a promise to transfer it later.
  • Eight weeks of being raised in the room we live in, which is the part nobody itemises and the part that decides the most.
  • The written guarantee, one year against a serious hereditary condition, with the exclusions published in full.
  • Us afterwards, for the whole life of the dog, and a return clause with no expiry date on it.

What it does not cover

Travel, if you want the puppy brought to you rather than collecting. The travel page sets out the three ways it happens and what each one actually involves. Your own vet's check after collection is yours, and so is everything the dog needs for the next fourteen years. Work that figure out before you commit rather than afterwards: the purchase price is the smallest number in the whole arrangement.

How it works

From the first message to the day they leave

You write about a particular puppy. We answer personally, and we will ask you things back: how long the dog is alone on a normal Tuesday, who does the walk in February, what happens when you go away. Nobody fails those questions by giving the wrong answer. People only fail by giving one that does not match the puppy they picked.

If it looks right on both sides, a deposit of 30 per cent holds that named puppy. It comes off the total rather than sitting on top of it. It is not returned if you simply change your mind, because a held puppy is a puppy we have turned other homes away from, and by then those homes have found a dog elsewhere. Nothing goes home before 8 weeks, whatever is offered and however convenient the date would be. This is what those last two weeks actually teach a puppy.

How often we have litters

Two a year, and only when a mother is genuinely ready for one. One household cannot raise more than that properly, and the amount of time each puppy gets is the whole argument for buying one from here. So there are stretches with nothing on this page, and we would rather tell you to wait six months than sell you the wrong dog now.
